New Smart Home Improvement Product Lifts Storage to New Heights
ORLANDO—January 11, 2006—It took a rocket scientist in the 21st century to come up with a solution to heavy, unsightly clutter in your home and garage. It took a rocket scientist in the 21st century to come up with a solution to the inconvenience and expense of offsite storage. It took a rocket scientist in the 21st century to create a home improvement product that literally carries your load, up and out of the way, into unused storage space in your home’s attic or garage loft. SpaceLift Products, Inc. will take lift off at the International Builders’ Show, January 11–14, when it unveils its patented solutions for home storage at the Orlando Convention Center, booth #S10596, and as a featured specification in The New American Home.
SpaceLift Products, Inc. is an innovative Southern California technology company that designs, manufactures and markets automated “smart home” storage systems. Developed by a NASA engineer and a team of other experts, SpaceLift Products deliver a 21st century answer to the homeowner’s constant mantra: Give me MORE STORAGE...and EASY ACCESS to it!
More and more, homeowners are concerned with getting organized and keeping their visible, usable square footage (including the garage) free of clutter. At the same time, there’s a growing trend toward self-sufficiency, which begs for onsite access to personal storage at any time. To the developers of SpaceLift Products, the attic and other possible overhead stowing areas make for the perfect storage location. But the burden of getting heavy objects and boxes safely up and down from such spaces has nearly rendered modern attic usage obsolete. The SpaceLift products were developed to help fill this order and more.
How it works:
The SpaceLift attic lift system features proprietary technologies in a lift platform carried by a frame that mounts into a standard 22-1/2 x 54-inch framed opening in the ceiling. The SpaceLift frame includes a mechanical drive train that lifts and lowers the lift platform using four aviation grade cables. The lift platform is big enough to carry most household storage items with a weight capacity of 75 pounds. The SpaceLift 6000 model features an integrated telescoping stairway that automates the traditional fold-down attic ladder. The integrated stairway disappears into the ceiling when not in use. When the stairway is deployed, the lift platform ordinarily remains stowed in the attic out of the way of the access opening. This permits the homeowner’s unimpeded use of the stairway to access the attic. Then, when needed to transport storage items, at the press of a button on the SpaceLift controller the lift platform automatically moves into position above the attic opening and travels down the guide track of the stairway. The homeowner loads the lift platform then presses a button. In a reverse process, the lift platform travels up the stairway track and returns to the stowed position to enable the homeowner to resume use of the stairway, allowing an individual to safely load and unload items from the attic storage space.
The SpaceLift 5000 model is a lower priced model that provides a basic lift capacity in lofts and other spaces where an integrated stairway is not required. Both SpaceLift automated storage systems make the process as simple as possible. “Before this invention, there was no convenient way to move storage items into an attic space, other than risking injury by physically carrying bulky items up a ladder,” said Brian Berliner, president and CEO of SpaceLift Products. “Our mission is to transform the concept of home storage by providing the industry with an automated and reliable solution for one of the greatest needs of the modern homeowner.”
Priced at about $2,995 plus installation, the SpaceLift 6000 automated attic lift system is initially available through authorized dealers and installers in California and Texas.

While SpaceLift Products can’t take credit for inventing the attic, they do lay claim to making attic access and storage a breeze, offering a possible renaissance in attic usage. That could save a lot of time, money and aggravation…which may just be rocket science after all!
